Me and Mine - July 2015

dear beautiful me and mine
July has been a bit of a long month for me. The labyrinthitis is still not completely gone, so I haven't been able to drive, meaning we've done a lot of playing at home. We've had some visitors, which has been lovely. It has meant we've made the most of going out at the weekends though, when the Hubby has been around to drive us. We had a trip to Warwick Castle, where our English Heritage cards got us 50% off the extortionate entry price; and the Hubby turned 30, so I organised a surprise picnic party for him, complete with party hats, games, and Star Trek themed cakes. The weather at the beginning of the month was sweltering, which meant it was time for ice lollies and the paddling pool. We've done a lot more decluttering, finally getting the girls' old clothes organised into boxes, and reorganising a few cupboards. There's still a lot more to do - we've just got so much stuff - but it feels good to see things starting to get ordered. We're in the process of
turning the spare room into a bedroom for B and M, which B is very excited about.
B has started to take more of an interest in reading and writing, so we've been using the blackboard quite a bit. She can read the word 'Look' now, and is starting to remember some letter sounds. With a bit of prompting she can write her own name - well, she can write each letter, but she doesn't yet remember the spelling. She's also started drawing more. Her people are incredibly cute, but the best so far has been her drawing of Yoda, complete with pointy ears and light sabre! She is absolutely obsessed with superheroes too, so the Hubby and I are having to swot up to be able to answer all her questions. I'm still not sure how I'm supposed to explain that they only make superhero pants for boys though! Suggestions, please.
M is a singer. She can carry a tune, despite her songs being gobbledegook, albeit with the same "words" each time. The Wheels on the Bus, Twinkle Twinkle, and Frere Jacques are amazing to listen to. She reminds me of the Abba song, Thank you for the music:
"Mother says I was a dancer before I could walk
She says I began to sing long before I could talk..."
She is a fan of the Hulk and Kung Fu Panda, and she likes to sing the Batman theme - lidlidl, Mat-Man! She has also learned how to put on her wellies by herself, how to open doors, and how to lock the toilet door!
